Feb 10 - Kent Futsal Finals
The 2010 Futsal Finals were held at The University of Kent on February 4th and 5th. This was the second year that the Finals had been run by the Kent Competition Manager team and the increase in local events taking place across the county had meant that the competition had to be held over two days.
Year 8 Girls
The Girls Futsal Finals took place during the morning of Thursday February 4th. Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar Year 8 team qualified for the finals through the West Kent Girls Futsal League that was run in Term 2. They were placed in a group with Leigh Academy, Brockhill and The Charles Dickens School. They won two matches and drew one match to finish top of their group to qualify for the semi finals where they faced Rainham School for Girls. They won this match 2-1 to reach the final where they played Highworth Grammar. In a dominant performance, they scored early and then went on to win 4-1 and become the 2010 Year 8 Girls Futsal Champions! TWGGS have also now qualified for the U13 Kent School Games Futsal competition in July 2010.
Boys Plate
Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys qualified for both the Year 7 and Year 8 Plate competitions which are run for all players that do not play for their school first team. The Year 7 team won their group with three wins and a draw to qualify for the semi finals against Harvey Grammar School. They beat Harvey Grammar in the semi final to meet The Howard School from Medway in the final who had beat Ursuline in the other semi final. Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar beat Howard in the final to become the second Kent Futsal Champions from Tunbridge Wells in 2010!
The Year 8 team from Tunbridge Wells Boys Grammar School finished third in their group recording wins against Dover Grammar and Ursuline but losing to Canterbury High and Greenacre. In the 5th/6th placed match, they lost to Harvey Grammar to finish 6th overall.
Both the Year 7 team and Year 8 team have automatically qualified
for the U13 Kent School Games Futsal competition in July 2010.
Boys Cup
St Gregory's Year 8 team were placed in a group with The Abbey School, Dover Grammar and Greenacre. They beat Greenacre and drew their other two matches to finish second in their group and qualify for the semi finals. In the semi, St Gregory's beat Aylesford School 2-1. They then faced Greenacre School in the Final, a rematch of an earlier group game which they had won. Unfortunately they lost the final 2-1 after a period of extra time after a strong Greenacre game. Finishing as runners up was still a fantastic achievement for the team and they should be very proud of themselves.
Well done to all TWSSP teams that took part in the finals and congratulations to TWGGS and TWGSB, the new 2010 Futsal Champions!

The U15 Runners Up were Aylesford School and the U13 Runners up were The Malling School.
Thank you to Aylesford for hosting the competition and to all staff that supported the event by bringing teams or officiating. Good luck to all of our winners and runners up who will now represent the West Kent region at the Kent School Games Finals in July 2010.

Nov 09 - Regional Kent School Games U15 Futsal Tournament
Download: ResultsThis competition was one of four taking place across Kent to provide schools with the opportunity to qualify for the Kent School Games Finals in July 2010. The tournament was for U15 Boys and U15 Girls and the top two teams in each category would automatically qualify to represent the West Kent region at the Kent School Games.
The Girl's competition was the largest with 8 teams from 7 schools entering teams. Teams were initially placed into groups of 4 teams and played each other in a round robin format. The top 2 from each group then progressed through to the semi-finals. Cornwallis Academy, Holmesdale Technology College, Aylesford Sports College, The Malling School and Invicta Grammar all regularly compete in the Maidstone District Futsal League at U12 and U13 age groups but this was the first time that they had taken part in an U15 competition. Mascalls School, similarly compete in the West Kent Futsal League at U12 and U13 age groups. Bradbourne School who were new to Futsal entered 2 teams and did extremely well, reaching the semi-finals in their first Futsal competition.
The other teams that reached the semi-finals were Mascalls School, Invicta Grammar and Aylesford. Mascalls and Invicta Grammar won their semi-finals to reach the eagerly anticipated final. It was a good match but Invicta Grammar ultimately proved to be too strong with an impressive 4-0 victory. Invicta Grammar performed consistently well throughout the afternoon scoring a total of 18 goals and conceding none!
The U15 Boy's tournament involved 6 teams from 5 different schools and again, for many of these players it was the first time that they had taken part in a Futsal competition. All teams initially played 2 fixtures in the group phase before progressing through to the knockout round. Maplesden Noakes, Hugh Christie 'A', Mascalls School and The Malling School each won 1 or 2 of their group matches to qualify for the semi-finals whilst Aylesford and Hugh Christie 'B' contested the fifth/sixth placed play-off match.
Malling beat Mascalls and Maplesden Noakes beat Hugh Christie in the semi-finals in two closely contested matches. Malling eventually claimed first place after a 2-1 victory over Maplesden Noakes and Mascalls beat Hugh Christie 3-0 to claim third place.
Thank you to all players and staff that supported this competition and congratulations to our Regional qualifiers; Mascalls School and Invicta Grammar (U15 Girls) and Maplesden Noakes and Malling School (U15 Boys).
Thank you also to the Sports Leaders from Astor of Hever for refereeing the matches and also to Adrian, Beth, Phil and Aaron, the SSP staff from the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells SSPs for helping the Competition Managers run this event so smoothly.

Nov 09 - West Kent Girl's Futsal League
This inaugural competition was set up following the success of the tournament the previous year. The league was structured to run over three separate nights at Mascalls School and the winners of each league would automatically qualify for the Kent Futsal Finals in February 2010.
Twelve teams from five schools took part, entering teams into the Year 7 and 8 Leagues. All schools played each of the other schools within their age group and the Year 7 teams had one additional fixture following the final league match to determine the overall positions.
Mascalls, St Gregory's, Hillview, Tonbridge Grammar and Tunbridge Wells Girl's Grammar took part in the competition. The standard of play improved week by week and both leagues were very competitive.

Year 7 Cup
Mascalls, St Gregory's, Hugh Christie, Hayesbrook and TWGSB entered this category. The final was eventually played a couple of weeks later and Hayesbrook beat Mascalls 2-1.
Year 8 Plate
St Gregory's, Hugh Christie and TWGSB entered this competition in a replica of the Year 7 category. The overall results were also the same with TWGSB winning both of their matches to win the division, Hugh Christie finishing second and St Gregory's third.
