Sept 08 - Futsal in Schools
In
Schools that are identified via the School Club Link plan will attend either a Beginners Guide to Futsal Course or the Futsal Level 1 Course prior to beginning the delivery of the coaching. Attendance on one of these courses will then trigger the release of a Futsal equipment pack for the Schools identified in the plan, and a set of Futsal Goals for the School Sport Partnership.
It is hoped that the Futsal School Club Link will support the delivery of a Futsal Championships that will be run by Kent Schools FA from January 09. We will be encouraging those Schools identified through the School Club link to enter teams into this competition. Spaces will also be made available on the courses for local Charter Standard Clubs to encourage them to look at delivering Futsal as part of their training, and hopefully competition structure.

Dec 07 - Year 7/8 Boys Futsal Tournament The first School's Futsal tournament in Kent was held at the Astor of Hever School in December 2007 and was attended by schools from Maidstone, Aylesford, and Folkestone amongst others. There are plans to extend the competition in 2008/9 as the game of Futsal becomes more widely played in schools across the county.

| What is Futsal? | |||
Futsal Futsal is the format of Small Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships for club and National Teams. The name 'Futsal' simply combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sala and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It is a five-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce. As a small-sided game players are constantly placed in situations where they must receive or play whilst under pressure or in confined spaces and it places considerable demand on technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness.

Kent Schools Futsal Championships 2008/9 - Report and Results
This inaugural competition took place on Tuesday 24th February at The University of Kent, Canterbury. Each of the competing teams had qualified for the County final through their local SSP/District competitions organised by the Kent team of Competition Managers.
The competitions were also organised as part of a wider Futsal development programme in Kent is association with Kent FA. This year, 6 School Sport Partnerships received coaching support through the School Club Link initiative. In 2009/10, the remaining School Sport Partnerships will be targeted to also receive this support.
The County Finals ran three separte competitions; Boy's Cup - 9 teams, Boy's Plate - 6 teams and Girl's Cup - 8 teams.
Boy's Cup
This was an open competition for school 'A' teams and the format comprised two groups of four teams playing in a mini-league. The top two teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.
In Group A, Aylesford and Greenacre and in Group B, St Gregory's RC Comprehensive and The Howard School all progressed through to the knock out phase. The Howard School beat Aylesford and then Greenacre beat St Gegory's to set up an all Medway final. The final was extremely close with no goals scored in regular or extra time and so it all came down to a tense penalty shoot out. Greenacre finally won on penalties but the standard of Futsal was excellent throughout the game and a real credit to both schools. St Gregory's beat Aylesford in the third/fourth place play off to finish third.
Boy's Plate
The Plate competition was for players that do not play football for their school first team and was incorporated into the Futsal programme to increase participation. Six teams entered the Plate and played each other in a league with the top two teams qualifying for the final. Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys won the league with The Howard School finishing Runners-up so both teams had to play each other again in the final. Howard had already beaten Tunbridge Wells Grammar in the league and so were full of confidence even though they had finished in second place overall. The final was again an excellent match and The Howard school were the eventual winners to claim a second victory for Medway schools. Harvey Grammar finished in third place and Ashford Christchurch in fourth.
Girl's Cup
The Girl's competition comprised two groups of four teams playing each other in a round robin mini league format. To qualify for the knockout phase, teams had to finish first or second in their group.
The qualifiers from Group A were Maplesden Noakes of Maidstone and Gravesend. The qualifiers from Group B were Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Girls and Rainham School for Girls. Maplesden Noakes and Gravesend both won their semi finals to set up a repeat of an earlier group game in the final. Maplesden Noakes won the final 1-0 and Rainham Girls finished third overall beating Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar in the third/fourth place play-off match.
