Gymnastics in Schools - Importance "Gymnastics is a foundation sport for all other sports. This is because it develops agility, balance, coordination and speed (the ABC's of athleticism). These physical qualities are inherent in all sports. For this reason, all British children will benefit from exposure to gymnastics during their first eight years. Participating in gymnastics at an early age, children will acquire "physical literacy", which is the foundation for life-long participation in physical activity and for successful performance at the elite level of sport".

Cheerleading
The National Governing Body for Cheerleading was formerly the United Kingdom Cheerleading Association (UKCA) who, from January 2008, have been working in partnership with British Gymnastics to transfer its activities to become a new discipline of British Gymnastics.
The UKCA is the only official body in the UK to put National Teams forward to the World Championships. For some, the highlight of the Cheerleading calendar is the UKCA National Championships, which attracted over 2,700 participants at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena. For others it’s the Open Schools Championships held at Manchester Velodrome. Kent Focus
The focus in Kent for 2008/9 is to raise awareness of the sport through teacher training. For schools that currently deliver cheerleading, there are currently regional and national competitions which they can enter. | |||
