TAG Rugby TAG Rugby Festivals take palce across the county, with 2 days of rugby finals at Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club. During the course of the year over 30 festivals take place all over Kent and some London Boroughs, all held at community rugby clubs, schools, school sports partnerships, or local authority venues, supported by a host of volunteers.
Last years finals saw 27 teams who had all qualified for the Fair Play Finals compete for the Cup, Plate and Shield and most importantly, ‘the Fairest of the Fair’ Award on the Thursday. Friday was the turn of 36 festival qualifiers to compete for the Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield and Salver, and the Fair Play Award. Also over the two days, 6 Special Schools competed in their own ‘Discover Rugby’ event, and played some matches. To add to the occasion, the schools represent a country at the finals, producing magnificent banners and fancy dress costumes. In addition, the Steel Band from Ilderton Primary School, Southwark, play on both days, again adding a festive feel to the occasion.

National School Sevens
The National Schools Sevens in association with Rosslyn Park FC has evolved into the world's largest rugby tournament with some 7,000 boys and girls aged 13 - 19 competing annually.
From its humble beginning in 1939, it has been held every year since, becoming one of the oldest continuous tournaments.
Originally it was a knock-out competition for public schools but as interest grew it was extended to include grammar, comprehensive and preparatory schools. The format was also changed into pool groups so that no "junior" school played fewer than three matches and no "senior" school fewer then four.

Thursday 19th June and Friday 20th June 2008 saw the culmination of the Kent RFU TAG Rugby Festival Programme 2008, combined with the Kent School Games TAG Rugby Finals, with 2 days of rugby finals at Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club. During the last few months over 30 festivals have taken place all over Kent and our London Boroughs, all held at community rugby clubs, schools, school sports partnerships, or local authority venues, supported by a host of volunteers.
Thursday saw 27 teams who had all qualified for the Fair Play Finals compete for the Cup, Plate and Shield and most importantly, ‘the Fairest of the Fair’ Award. In addition, the Steel Band from Ilderton Primary School, Southwark, played on both days, again adding a festive feel to the occasion. Aylesford Bulls Rugby Club were excellent hosts and Kent County RFU is fortunate to have the use of their magnificent facilities.
Kent RFU is extremely grateful to the supporters of their Tag Rugby Festival Programme, Wooden Spoon, Yazoo, and the Kent Sports Development Unit, and to all the volunteers who give up numerous hours of their time to ensure that the whole programme is delivered successfully. This year, the 2 days of festivals were enhanced by the support of the Kent Schools Games, for which Kent RFU is very grateful. |
