Aberdare and Glanvill Cups The Aberdare and Glanvill Cups are for those aged 19 and under and represents the highest standard of schools team tennis in the country. They are seen as the National Schools Championships. Teams are grouped into regions for the qualifying stage which is a knock-out draw that takes place between March and June. The winning teams from each region qualify for the National Finals, a week long event which takes place in July. Matches consist of four singles and two doubles rubbers. Each rubber is the best of three sets; the third is a match tie-break. The boys' event is the Glanvill Cup for teams of 4 or 5 players and the girls' event is the Aberdare Cup, again for teams of 4 or 5 players. Any level of player may participate. There is no ratings cap and players without a rating can still participate. 2008 Competition Structure: | |||

The Senior Students' Competition The Senior Students' Competition is for pupils in year 11 and above. Boys', girls' and mixed county leagues lead to regional knockouts and national finals. This competition brings an important element to the schools tennis calendar as it encourages lower rated players to play competitive tennis and provides them with an opportunity to compete in a National Final. The competition consists of boys', girls' and 'mixed' events and begins with local league stages throughout the winter, where approximately 300 teams take part all over
Each team is made up of four players and the Local League 'round robin' format allows for a wide range of playing ability. Winners of the local leagues take part in the regional knockout stage before qualifying for the national finals. This competition has a ratings cap of 6.2 or better (i.e. if you are a 6.2 at the time of entry, you cannot play) Format consists of 4 singles and 2 doubles for each of the boys' and girls' events, and 4 doubles for the 'mixed' events. Entry is free for all BSTA member schools. (The entry cost for non member schools is £15 per team).
