Volleyball Formats When most people think of Volleyball they think of the traditional 6-a-side Indoor Volleyball which is played in sports halls. However, there are now alternative forms of the game which have helped to increase the popularity of the sport and enabled a wider range of participants to take part.
Beach Volleyball: As you would expect Beach Volleyball is played on sand and teams comprise of two players instead of six. Kent have recently had plans approved to create an offical Beach Volleyball complex in Canterbury. The complex will offer the opportunity to develop participation in the sport and could lead to the four-court complex being used as a 2012 Olympics training camp. Sitting Volleyball: This adapted game was originally designed for people with disabilities. The game is also an excellent vehicle for players returning from injury during rehabilitation. As part of an effort to promote the game in Kent, Kent Sports Development Unit (KSDU) has purchased a purpose made transportable Taraflex floor for Sitting Volleyball, the only one of its type in the UK. This initiative has been recognised by the British Volleyball Federation as the first step in resurrecting the sport in this Country and ensuring a GB Team competes in the 2012 Paralympics. | |||

| Kent School's Volleyball Championships 2008/9 The inaugural Kent School's Volleyball Championships was run by Kent Volleyball in association with the Kent Competition Managers. Prior to the competition, Tom Middleton (Kent Volleyball Development Officer) had offered support to schools in the form of coaching sessions.
Volleyball is still very much a developmental sport in Kent and many schools that took part had not previously taken part in a Volleyball Competition.
There were four competitions in total, each taking place in March 2009.
